What Wood-Nation is.
BWR grade plywood with a Gurjan face: the middle grade of the three, for rooms where moisture is a visitor rather than a resident.
BWR grade, to IS 303
The sheet carries the ISI mark against IS 303 in BWR — boiling water resistant — grade, with the licence number printed on the face beside it. BWR is the upper of the two bonding grades that standard sets.
A Gurjan face
Gurjan is a dense hardwood, used here for the outer veneer. It gives a hard, tight, even surface — the part your polish or your laminate has to sit on.
A eucalyptus core
Wood-Nation is open about what is under the face: eucalyptus layers, which is what gives the sheet its weight and its grip on a screw.
Kept on the floor
Carried as regular stock rather than ordered in, so a job that needs the middle grade does not have to settle for the one either side of it.
The face is not the board.
Gurjan is the most used word in the plywood market and the least understood. It is worth knowing exactly how much of a sheet it refers to before you pay extra for it.

Faced means the outside, not the whole
Gurjan faced plywood has Gurjan on the two outer veneers. The layers in between are a different timber — here, eucalyptus. That is not a criticism, it is simply what the words mean, and Wood-Nation prints both facts on its own sheet. Full Gurjan plywood, where every layer is Gurjan, is a different and dearer thing.

What the face is actually for
Appearance and surface. A dense, even face takes polish well, gives laminate a flat bed to stick to, and resists the dents and scuffs of a workshop. That is real value — just not the value most people think they are buying.

What the core and the glue decide
Everything else. How much the sheet weighs, how well it holds a screw at the hinge, how flat it stays, and what happens to it after a damp monsoon. Those come from the inner layers and the resin holding them together, not from the two veneers you can see.

So ask about the grade before the face
The letters — MR, BWR, BWP — describe the glue, and the glue is what fails first in an Indian house. A beautiful face over a grade that is wrong for the room is the expensive way to make a mistake.

And if it is going under laminate, say so
Nobody will ever see the face on a wardrobe shutter that is getting laminated. Tell us what the finish will be and we will tell you honestly whether the face is worth paying for on that particular job.
Wood-Nation or Extrablack?
The two lines we sell most of, side by side. We stock both, so we have no reason to push you either way.

Rooms that stay dry — Extrablack
Bedrooms and living rooms on an upper floor, away from outer walls. MR grade does that work, and paying for BWR there is paying for a risk the room does not have.

Rooms that get damp — Wood-Nation
Ground floor furniture, anything against an outer wall, and rooms that turn humid in the rains. BWR is bonded to cope with damp that comes and goes, which is exactly the Kanpur monsoon.

Rooms with water in them — neither
A kitchen carcass, an under-sink unit or a bathroom vanity wants boiling water proof bonding. That is a Sainik 710 job, and we will say so rather than sell you BWR for it.

When the finish decides it
If the piece is being polished and the grain will show, the Gurjan face earns its money. If it is going under laminate, the grade matters and the face does not.
Where it’s used.
The damp half of the house, and anywhere the face is going to be seen.
Ground floor furniture
Wardrobes, storage and fixed furniture on ground floors, where damp comes up through the wall and the floor in the rains.
Against outer walls
Anything built tight against an external wall, where the wall itself carries moisture through the monsoon.
Utility and dry kitchen areas
Storage and tall units away from the sink, where there is steam and humidity but no standing water.
Polished and exposed work
Pooja units, display shelving, panelling and shop fittings where the grain is part of the finish rather than hidden under laminate.

The grade, the standard and the licence number are printed on the face. Turn a sheet over at the counter and read them — we would rather you checked than took our word for it.
