What MDF is.
Medium Density Fibreboard. Hardwood broken down to fibre, then bonded back together under heat and pressure into a panel that is the same material all the way through — no grain, no plies, no core gaps.
No grain to fight
Paint and duco sit flat on it and stay flat. On plywood the grain eventually telegraphs through a painted finish; on MDF there is no grain to come through.
The same all the way through
A homogeneous panel with no core gaps waiting inside it, so a cut edge is solid and finishes cleanly instead of needing filling.
It takes a profile cleanly
Because there is no grain and no ply to tear out, a routed edge or a moulded profile comes off MDF crisp and paint-ready. This is why detailed panel and profile work gets cut on MDF rather than on plywood.
Flat, and consistently thick
Even thickness across the sheet, which is what lets laminate and veneer lie down without bubbles along the join.
Treated against termites and borers
Action TESA treats its MDF against termites, borers and fungus — worth having behind a finish you have paid to spray.
Low emission grades
Action TESA makes MDF in CARB certified and E0 and E1 emission grades. Worth asking for by name on anything going into a bedroom or a child’s room.
We supply board in standard sheet sizes. The cutting and profiling is your carpenter’s work or your fabricator’s — we don’t offer it, and we’ll say so plainly rather than waste your time.
MDF or plywood?
The question almost everyone arrives with. Neither one wins outright — they fail in different places, and knowing where saves you the cost of finding out on site.

For a painted finish, MDF wins
This is the job MDF was made for. A grainless face takes paint, duco and lacquer dead flat, and it still looks flat two years later. Painted plywood shows its grain through the finish eventually, and no amount of primer settles the argument permanently.

For screws and load, plywood wins
Plywood holds a screw better, particularly into the edge, and carries weight across a span that MDF would sag under. Long shelves and anything structural belong in ply.

For water, neither — use the right board
Plain MDF is the wrong answer anywhere water collects; it swells and does not come back. BWP plywood handles wet areas, and so does HDHMR. Ask before you put plain MDF near a sink.

For a clean edge, MDF wins
A cut MDF edge is solid material. A plywood edge shows its plies, and any core gap in the sheet shows up exactly where you did not want it.

What we would actually ask you
Is it getting painted or laminated? Does it carry weight? Does it ever get wet? Three answers and the board chooses itself — and sometimes the answer is that you wanted plywood all along.

Two grades, plus board that arrives already finished. The grade matters more than most people expect.
Regular grade MDF
Interior grade, for dry work: painted furniture, panelling, display and shutters in rooms that stay dry.
MR grade MDF
Moisture resistant grade, made for the swings in Indian weather and for rooms that get humid rather than wet.
Pre-laminated MDF
Finished on both faces at the factory and ready to cut and assemble, with no separate laminating step.
Made to the standards
Action TESA MDF is manufactured in compliance with IS 12406, and the pre-laminated range to IS 14587. Ask us for the grade on the board you are buying.

Anywhere the surface is going to be looked at rather than loaded.
Painted and duco furniture
The main reason MDF is bought: shutters and furniture that have to come out of the spray booth perfectly flat.
Wall panelling and display
Panelling, moulded and profiled panels, and shop display work, where a seamless painted surface is the whole effect.
Wardrobes and modular shutters
Shutters and fronts in dry rooms, laminated or pre-laminated.
Door manufacturing
Used as a component in door and shutter manufacture, where a flat, even face is what the finish depends on.
