What an HDHMR door is.
Not a frame with a filling. The whole shutter is one dense engineered board, with the laminate pressed on at the factory.
An HDHMR shutter
Action TESA presses HDHMR from hardwood fibre with its own adhesive, and makes the door from it. The same board we sell by the sheet for kitchen carcasses, in door form.
Solid structure, no core gap
Action TESA’s own phrase for it, and the thing that makes this door behave differently from every other shutter on our floor. The section below is about why that matters.
Laminated and ready to hang
The laminate goes on at the factory, on both faces, under heat and pressure. Nothing is left for a carpenter to stick on at the site.
Calibrated, so it is the same thickness all over
Action TESA states the panels are calibrated to remove thickness variation. A door of even thickness is a door that closes true and keeps closing true.
There is nothing hollow inside it.
Cut an ordinary flush door in half and you find a timber frame with battens across it and gaps in between. Cut this one and you find the same board all the way through. That one difference decides most of what a fitter can and cannot do.

Why a flush door comes with a map
Because the inside is not uniform. There is a block of timber where the lock is meant to go, and battens with voids between them everywhere else, which is why the maker prints the lock position on the face — Sainik Doors do exactly this, and quite right too. Cut the mortise anywhere else and the lock is sitting in air.

An HDHMR door has no map, because it does not need one
Action TESA’s line is “solid structure, no core gap”. In practice that means the handle height, the lock, the hinges and any concealed fitting go where the drawing puts them rather than where the door allows them. On a job where the hardware is specified, that is the whole argument.

A screw bites the same anywhere
On a battened door a fixing either lands in timber or it does not, and you find out which about a year later when the hinge starts to pull. A homogeneous board gives every screw the same thing to hold on to. This is our reading of it rather than a figure Action TESA publishes — but it is the reason fitters stop arguing once they have hung one.

Even thickness, flat faces
Calibrated panels are why the laminate lies flat with no bubble in it and why the shutter sits square in the frame. A door that is a shade thicker at one end fights its frame for the rest of its life.

Where it is not the answer
It is still a wood fibre board. It handles a humid room well — that is what HDHMR is for — but a bathroom floor that is wet every day is not its job. Ask us about PVC and WPC doors for those openings and we will say so plainly.
